Pulling wagons full of soil strengthens muscles, tending a garden enhances coordination, and climbing a mound improves balance. Setting up a farmstand strengthens social and language skills. All outdoors, typical kids play together with children with challenges. Friendship and independence is fostered and understanding and empathy are a natural byproduct. Staff are on hand to assist parents and children so that everyone can participate. Therapy is happening, and children don't even realize it.

PlayGarden Preschool

The PlayGarden preschool curriculum is based on the Council for Environmental Education's curriculum, Growing Up WILD. This curriculum is correlated with both Head Start Domains and The National Association for the Education of Young Children's accreditation criteria.

Instructional themes follow the seasons of the year and include lessons relating to:

Connecting children to nature
Expanding early language and literacy skills
Developmentally appropriate mathematics
Health and wellness through "Garden to Table" snack prep and active play

Each child will learn:

Developmentally appropriate social skills such as how to participate in group learning, be a good friend, and listen and follow directions.
Age-appropriate literacy skills including listening to stories, recognizing printed language, playing with words and letters, telling stories, and expanding receptive and expressive vocabulary.
Names of local birds, flowers, animals, and plants, and about how we depend on the natural world.
Concepts of quantity, shapes, patterns, measurements, and change.
How to select and prepare healthy snacks.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side this summer at the PlayGarden!

Surrounded by FUN Camp Counselors (1 counselor for every 3 campers), your child will explore the NEW Tree Fort, summit "Mt. Jordan", forage our gardens and traverse the Wild Zone. Beware: They will definitely encounter chickens and bunnies! At the PlayGarden we offer developmentally appropriate nature-based programs for kids of ALL abilities and ages (ages 1 - 18).
